AI and New Emerging Technologies Meeting at the EPO in Berlin

The IP5 consists of five patent offices which together handle around 85% of the world’s patent applications. On the 15th and 16th of January 2020, representatives of the IP5 sat down to an inaugural meeting to discuss coordinating patent examination of New Emerging Technologies and Artificial Intelligence. Berlin was chosen because as part of the EPO’s Strategic Plan 2023, it intends to develop the EPO Berlin office into a centre of expertise on Artificial Intelligence.
